Beauty | Make-Up Haul & Mini Reviews

Hi everyone! I’m back – and I suppose after an almost 4 week break from blogging, I have some explaining to do! Well… I’ve just spent the last 3 weeks on a family vacation in Orlando, Florida!

Whenever I’m away on holiday I like to take a complete break from technology, as I’ve discussed before it’s important to step away from devices, look up and embrace the moment sometimes.

I had an absolutely fantastic time but I’m ready to reconnect with my blog to distract my feelings of post-vacation blues and entertain my jetlag!

Before I jetted off on holiday, I refreshed quite a lot of my make-up, so that I had products suitable for travelling and the heat (temperatures of 100F + most days)!

I really enjoy shopping for make-up products, whether they’re new and different or a repurchase of regulars that feature in my make-up routine, unfortunately the cost of these items means that I’m often purchasing make-up in dribs and drabs.

However, as I started to run low on some of my favourites again, I decided to switch it up and fully restock, taking advantage of all of the offers along the way…

Face

Face 1 (1)

Maybelline Expert Wear Blush (Flash Plum)

This is a lovely blusher but the shade looks darker in the palette than when it’s applied to the face, which isn’t a bad thing, as it’s build-able too, depending on how you like it! It has a nice touch of sparkle/shimmer, which worked well under the sun-drenched Floridian skies!

Maybelline Dream Smooth Primer (Boots | £8.99 | Offer: 2 for £10)

This primer creates a great canvas for your make-up, I’ve tried other primers before and found them to be quite heavy. I don’t want to feel (or for it to look) like I’m wearing layers of make-up. This product instantly smooths the skin but is very light, you don’t feel as if you’re wearing anything in fact and, another bonus, a little goes a long way!

L’oreal True Match Powder (Rose Vanilla) (Superdrug | £6.99 | Offer: 3 for 2)

This product featured in my July Favourites and is still being used as part of my daily routine, it held up well during my recent vacation as its super silky formula absorbed any shine on my face and the coverage is great without having a cakey texture.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (04 Light Porcelain) (Boots | £7.69 | Offer: 2 for £10)

It has been difficult to find the perfect shade of foundation for my pale skin; I tried Porcelain before this one and even found that to be too ‘orange’ on my face! This is the ideal shade, it provides a good even coverage for a flawless effect but is lightweight. It’s very quick and easy to apply too!

Face 2 (1)

Seventeen Cheek and Blush Brush (Boots | £2.99)

I picked this up with some of my Boots advantage card points and I’ve not been disappointed! I often find blush brushes to be quite large but I prefer this dainty version, it provides an even, lightweight application. The brush is very soft and, best of all; I’ve experienced no shedding!

Om She Natural Bamboo Powder Brush (T.K.Maxx | £3.99)

I love this brush! It’s perfect for all-over blending; it sets my make-up and gives a natural finished look. It’s a fluffy, soft brush that gives good coverage with minimal effort.

Eyes

Makeup Revolution Redemption Mermaids VS. Unicorns Palette (Superdrug | £4.00)

This palette was on my wish list for a while, admittedly the name was a major attraction, but the shades looked like a lot of fun too! As soon as it came back into stock, it was mine! The colours are BEAUTIFUL and the pigmentation is amazing, they have a glittery shimmer, which doesn’t go unnoticed (even for a girl in glasses)!

Little Mix Eye Love Palette (Shade 1) (Superdrug | £2.99)

I bought this because neutrals, golds and browns are always ‘safe’ shades but I didn’t have them in a small palette that would be suitable for travelling with. I found that the shades were quite subtle on their own, so I really had to build them up to try and achieve the colour in the palette, though I wouldn’t complain for the price!

Eyes 2 (1)

L’Oreal Lumi Magique Highlighter Pen (Light) (Superdrug | £8.49 | Offer: 3 for 2)

I usually use the MeMeMe Beat the Blues (Pearl Pink) highlighter but because it’s a liquid product, I felt that it wasn’t quick enough in the morning when I’m more interested in getting to the Disney parks! I used this highlighter on my cheekbones and brow bones, it is very easy to apply and adds luminosity to the skin, though it’s not quite as shimmery as its predecessor.

Maybelline Anti-Age Eraser Eye Concealer (Light) (Boots | £7.99 | Offer: 2 for £10)

This product comes highly recommended from friends and fellow beauty bloggers… I now understand why! I love the sponge applicator, which makes it super easy to apply, it has great coverage that eliminates dark circles effectively and it doesn’t crease. It’s definitely the best drugstore concealer that I’ve ever tried!

Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara (Medium Brown) (Boots | £4.99)

I have been using this product for a while, it has a round-tipped wand, which means that it applies the product gently to the eyebrow, helping to sculpt and fill them in with ease. I can quickly swipe it on and the brows will remain in place all day!

Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner (Black) (Tesco | £2.99)

This is an affordable eyeliner that always does the job! The brush is easy to control, which is important, as you know how much I like my batwings! The liquid is highly pigmented, which means that it lasts all day without the need for another application. The product itself lasts for a really long time too.

Kardashian Beauty Eye Fidelity Waterproof Mascara (T.K. Maxx | £4.99)

I liked the packaging and travel size of this product; I was also looking for a waterproof mascara for my holiday – ticks all of the boxes, right? …Wrong! Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with this product, I had to apply 3+ coats to each eye for it to even look noticeable, it doesn’t provide much length or volume and I felt that it was quite dry, which means that it won’t last long!

Lips

Rimmel Apocalips (100 Phenomenon) (T.K. Maxx | £5.99 | Offer: 3 Pack for £5.99)

I really like the Rimmel Apocalips range, they’re usually highly pigmented shades but I was attracted to having a nude amongst my choices. This is a slightly pink-toned nude, which I like but it was a lot subtler than I thought it would be, it’s quite watery and more like a light gloss.

Rimmel Apocalips (501 Stellar) (T.K. Maxx | £5.99 | Offer: 3 Pack for £5.99)

I LOVE this shade! It was perfect for my summer holiday as it’s a very, very, very bright coral shade. It applies more like a hot pink but as the day progresses it becomes a bit softer.

Rimmel Apocalips (701 Stargazer) (T.K. Maxx | £5.99 | Offer: 3 Pack for £5.99)

This is quite a sheer lip product but it does have a lot of golden sparkle, which I like, especially for the upcoming Christmas period! However, I think that I’m more likely to wear this over the top of a lipstick to add a bit more colour to the shimmer!

L’Oreal Glam Shine Miss Candy (702 Candy Pink) (T.K. Maxx | £2.99)

Admittedly, I was attracted to the cute packaging and the swirly whirly product but this is much too sheer for my liking, it doesn’t provide much colour or shimmer. The best part about it is its sweet smell!

What was the last beauty product that you bought?

I’m always looking for the perfect mascara, so I picked up Buxom mascara, which I already dislike, and NARS, which is a bit better but not great.
I also tried Clinique stay-matte foundation, which is okay but nothing too exciting, and Giogio Armani’s fluid sheer, which smells nice but is way too sheer for me, and also slightly shimmery, which I don’t care for.

It’s such a shame when products don’t live up to expectations or you’re trying to locate the perfect one and it takes numerous tries! I suppose that I should have known that the Kardashian Beauty mascara was not going to be great, I think I’ll stick with Benefit’s Roller Lash or Rimmel’s Wake Me Up mascara (as a more affordable option).
