31 Things To Do This Halloween Season

The leaves have started to fall from the trees and the air has a new crispness, Hocus Pocus GIF’s have been posted across social media platforms with reckless abandon, and it’s Pumpkin Spice Latte everything, because it’s that time of year again.

Now if you haven’t dusted off the cobwebs and welcomed in the season yet, then make no bones about it, it’s time to show your spirit and paint the town dead (and maybe stop using Halloween puns, but that’s always debatable).

Tomb it may concern, I have compiled a list of my top suggestions for tricks-and-treats throughout the month of October:

  1. Participate in the #31DaysOfHorror challenge, watching 31 horror movies in 31 days.
  2. Share scary stories around a campfire, serving s’mores to all brave attendees.
  3. Visit a pumpkin patch and select your own pumpkin straight from the farm.
  4. Host a murder mystery party, supplying each guest with a detailed character description.
  5. Carve a pumpkin and turn it into a spooktacular Jack-O-Lantern.
  6. After you have hollowed out your Jack-O-Lantern, roast the pumpkin seeds for a toasted snack.
  7. Raid the nearest grocery store for candy and other fang-tastic treats.
  8. Decorate your home with orange and black, the traditional colours of Halloween.
  9. Bake a collection of devilish delights from blood-curdling red velvet, to meringue ghosts and gingerdead men.
  10. Raise hell on a road trip, visiting the shooting location of your favourite horror movie.
  11. Go ghost-hunting with friends and conduct your best supernatural detective work.
  12. Compile a Halloween playlist, featuring 66 songs guaranteed to get you in the spirit.
  13. Play some ghoulish games, including the likes of apple bobbing and pin the bone on the skeleton.
  14. Dress up in a creepy costume and take photos with friends in their fancy dress.
  15. Go trick-or-treating and then return home for a monster hot chocolate.
  16. Light wax candles and create a ghostly glow for a haunting Halloween atmosphere in your home.
  17. Spend a rainy day scrapbooking the season.
  18. Experiment with costume make-up, even if the results turn out to be quite dreadful.
  19. Brew your own creepy cocktails to scare serve to guests.
  20. Send someone a Halloween card that is too cute to spook.
  21. Put together a surprise care package for a friend or relative.
  22. Dress your front door or porch area with a welcoming autumn wreath.
  23. Create your own Halloween bunting and garlands, from spooky skeletons to ceiling bats.
  24. Read some spine-chilling novels, but only if you dare!
  25. Put on a cozy jumper and satisfy your cravings with a pumpkin spice latte.
  26. Create a den in your living room and spend the evening watching scary movies.
  27. Press some autumn leaves and decoupage them onto your pumpkins.
  28. Collect some chestnuts and roast them in your oven (don’t forget to pierce them first).
  29. Take a night hike with a group of fearless friends.
  30. Wake up before dawn and take a sunrise photoshoot in your nearest nature reserve.
  31. Follow @AdeleAnkers on Twitter… (I promise you’ll be in for a real treat).

It has been a while! I’ve been freelance writing for a number of other sites, which has distracted me slightly from the blog. I have felt really humbled by the visitors and support from readers though, and I’m glad to be back. I’ve missed it and everyone – there’s so much to catch up on! How have you been?

I know that if I celebrated Halloween I’d probably do all these things. Growing up we didn’t celebrate Halloween because we only celebrated Jewish holidays and American holidays. It’s really big where I live now though; businesses on the main street have designated trick-or-treat hours for kids, and there is a huge mess of an event every year called Freak Fest which is mostly drunk, dressed up college students and too-loud bands. And it costs 20 dollars to get across the street unless you’re willing to walk all the way up to the Capital building.

Hey Jacob; long time, no speak! Even without celebrating Halloween, I hope that you may find enjoyment in some of the fall activities featured on this list… surely it beats spending 20 dollars to get across the street! 😉
