Makeup Revolution’s Mermaid Vs. Unicorns palette has been on my wish list for a while, so as soon as it came back into stock I purchased it for an amazingly affordable £4! The multi-coloured eyeshadow palette featured in my ‘September Favourites’ because it was regularly used throughout my holiday in Florida that month – and since some of you had shown an interest in the palette, I thought that I would write up a full review of my thoughts!
First impressions
Admittedly the name of the palette (Mermaids Vs. Unicorns) was the first attraction and the shadows contained within seemed to fit the theme perfectly, although I was interested to see if the highly pigmented shades had the same colour pay-off when applied to the skin.
The palette is medium-sized and comes with an applicator, which is always useful for storing your favoured application tool when travelling.
Shades and swatches
The eyeshadows stay true to their respective names with some beautiful nautical blues and sea greens filling one half of the palette, representing the mermaids, and some candy pinks, deep purples and dreamy navys to represent the unicorns in the other half of the palette.
Ultimately, I found myself using the mermaids side of the palette more because the shades blend together wonderfully and look even better shimmering in the summer sunshine. Although, having said that, I think that I’ll be keen to use the unicorns side more now that we have reached Autumn!
Application
Whether you apply primer as a base or not, the shadows are excellent quality and last all day long without creasing or fallout, which I put to the ultimate test in temperatures of 100°F!
All of the colours instantly pop and each one is heavy on the shimmer, in fact they almost have a metallic appearance, which just adds to the magic of it – simply stunning!
Final verdict
This palette is worth the 400 pennies out of your piggy bank because the impressive quality, highly pigmented, long lasting wear of the shadows far outweigh any price!
Which side would you choose, Mermaids or Unicorns?
What a gorgeous palette, so pretty and shimmery! I think I like how the Mermaids side looks more but I’d probably get more use out of the Unicorns side, pinks and purples suit my eyes better than greens or blues. Would love to see different looks using this palette on you ❤

I’ve only had two Makeup Revolution palettes but I’ve been so impressed by the quality of both, especially with how affordable they are! This was such a great ‘holiday’ palette. Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve used some of these shadows on a Halloween-inspired make-up look that I’m hoping to get up this week! Xx

I love experimenting with colours but I usually blend them to tone them down a little bit, unless it’s for a purpose e.g. Fancy dress, inspired looks etc.!
