The sun might already be setting on the summer but behind rose-tinted sunglasses I have satisfied my eyes with a few books this season, including Paige Toon’s ‘I Knew You Were Trouble.’
If you want to know the premise of the book before your ice cream melts, then, in a sentence: Sunshine, rock gods and Hollywood heartthrobs! *Swoon* – seriously, you will thank me later.
I Knew You Were Trouble* follows the story of Jessie Jefferson (aka the undercover daughter of a rock god), who – after spending a summer living it up in Los Angeles – returns to England to start her new school term. Pretty standard, right? Wrong. Not only is Jessie still coming to terms with her secret claim to fame, she also has rekindled a spark with her former *heart eyes emoji* crush Tom.
Plot twist: She soon realises that her thoughts are clouded with “bad boy” Jack who she met on her vacay. Ooh lala! ❤
The lines between Jessie’s love triangle are filled with drama, mostly thanks to the paparazzi who follow her every movement while the media clamour to exploit her life via her famous father — meanwhile, the young teen desperately tries to escape the spotlight, choosing to adorn her walls with celebrity crushes rather than model alongside them.
Overall, I Knew You Were Trouble is a great book for young adults (and even slightly older adults) because it provides escapism from everyday life. In today’s celebrity culture, the storyline will surely be a hit with readers, as our heroine invites us to take a peek into the world of the rich and famous while also remaining completely relatable as a character.
Personally I thoroughly enjoyed sinking into this book during a few afternoons relaxing in the summer sun; it is witty, upbeat and entertaining.

I just finished The Little Bride by Anna Solomon. Great concept, poor execution, not a fan. Currently reading Shadows of the Workhouse by Jennifer Worth, sequel to Call the Midwife, same as the BBC series. I was traveling for a whole month, so not much reading, and school is starting soon, so probably won’t get to read too much more but here’s hoping that’s not the case 🙂 have a great day m’love!

Ooh fabulous! Autumn/Winter are always my best reading months, there’s nothing better than snuggling in bed with a hot chocolate and a good book (or maybe that’s just me)! I hope that you’ve had some novel-worthy adventures of your own whilst travelling.

Check out my blog! About half my trip is up, all except the last few days on PEI and Boston, where I didn’t do too much.

Oops! I hope that you enjoy it, I’m definitely going to be looking into the other books in the series, I’m sure it would help to have the first instalment for greater context. Thank you so much Sophie, it’s kind of you to pass it on to little ole’ me! 🙂
