Fashion | #Cannes2015 In Review (Day 2)

I have literally been glued to every possible feed and outlet for the Cannes Film Festival this year, so I thought that I would return for a second day with some of the fashions that are hitting the red carpet. As you may have noticed yesterday, I don’t always agree with the general consensus, so I’ll be interested to read your thoughts and opinions on the Day 2 selection too!

Charlize Theron

For many people, this bright yellow Christian Dior floor-sweeping gown was the highlight of Day 2 on the red carpet. Charlize certainly gave Lupita some competition in the bold colour department, though Lupita is still the winner in my eyes.

I’m not a fan of the Big Bird yellow but I do like the fit of the dress, which only highlights her statuesque figure and the flowing, statement train that we’ve all been waiting to see on the red carpet this year!

Naomi Watts

Naomi deserves another mention as she showcases one of my top looks from Day 2! She looked flawless in this Ralph Lauren tulle gown. I love the textured looks that she has chosen this year and this one is no different with a detailed bodice working it’s way down into the flowing trails of chiffon to create a dramatic silhouette.

The simple black dress gave her the opportunity to flaunt her diamonds and fix her hair in old Hollywood style curls to create a classic and timeless look.

Michelle Rodriguez

Michelle stepped on to the red carpet to make an impression in this long-sleeved Zuhair Murad evening gown but was it a good one?

By now we’re familiar with these embroidered cut-out designs over nude underlays and sometimes they do work, when you can barely notice that there are two different elements, but I found this particular attempt to be too harsh. The redeeming factor was her light application of make-up, which only enhanced her natural beauty and gave the dress centre stage…

Katrina Kaif

I’m quickly noticing that I’m a fan of the fashion designer Elie Saab, notably appearing in every fashion review that I write and today is no different.

Katrina looked ultra glamorous in this floor-sweeping gown, she was covered in the red textured material from head to toe, proving that you can look beautiful without being revealing (see above). I loved her matching red lip but I think that it could have been made better with a classic updo!

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore

I gave Julianne a bit of a hard time in my fashion review for Day 1 and she certainly has a unique sense of style, there are very few people that could make blood-red velvet with patent croc skin work but she manages it!

This one-armed Givenchy Couture dress is tame compared to yesterday but I like this softer approach, she looks so slick! Lets not be ignorant to the matching ankle-strap heels too. Classic with an edge!

Sophie Marceau

I have a feeling that this is going to be one of those marmite fashion choices, you’ll either love it or hate it. I wouldn’t typically like this style of outfit, perhaps because it resembles a dressing gown that you might wear at a spa retreat.

However, I actually have a soft spot for the Alexandre Vauthier silk-shirt dress. It’s an effortless style that only French actresses in their late 40’s can pull off successfully, thankfully Sophie fits all of the criteria. I love the Chopard snake necklace too, she looks like a Bond girl!

Zoe Kravitz

I liked the simplicity and softness of Zoe’s Valentino Haute Couture gown, it’s super feminine and pretty, whilst the flowing material makes it appear ethereal.

The cut out design and the sheerness of the dress, whilst being risky, helped to add a dash of “her” to the dress, I was pleasantly surprised.

Fan Bingbing

Take note, this is what making a statement looks like. Fan Bingbing’s festival fashion choice has divided opinions, whilst I admit that it’s overly extravagant, there’s also part of me that likes the dusty grey Marchesa tulle gown with its billowing sleeves and assortment of 3D flowers, which are incredibly detailed. She looks like a princess!

Most people would keep accessories to a minimum in this case but she goes all out with a matching floral headpiece and dazzling diamond earrings, sadly that was a step too far for me.

Liya Kebede

I can’t possibly include every outfit that donned the red carpet on Day 2 but for the best or worst reasons, this one deserved a mention.

It’s a mixture of materials and textures, I’m still trying to understand what it wants to achieve with its caveman-esque sequin covering and shower curtain ring underskirt. I’m not a fan of the tummy of the tights being on display either, that is one trend that I’m sure won’t catch on.

As if that wasn’t enough, I’m going to leave you with this…

Yep, that happened.

I love Katrina Kaif’s dress! Stunning! I’m not really that knowledgable about designers, but Elie Saab has got to be my favourite ever. His dresses are always so elegant and plain beautiful.

I completely agree, the fabric and embroidery on Katrina’s dress reminded me of something that you might see in Mad Men too, so that’s another bonus! And they say never to wear red on the red carpet, she proved us wrong!

Adele, I actually love Sophie’s dress. It looks so comfortable and summery. I know she was a Bond girl, but I remember her in the movie “La Boum (The Party”) where she played a French teenager in love for the first time. We watched it in French class. I recently found it on iTunes as it’s not on DVD. It was a nostalgic film for me.

Back to fashionJulianne Moore is gorgeous and I agree with your comments about both dresses.

Oh Jilly, I had a complete mind melt moment there, I said Sophie looked like a Bond girl, then you reminded me that she *was* a Bond girl, how funny!! I’ll have to look up that movie, I haven’t heard of it before but I do like foreign cinema.

What the … Is this even real hair or did they just take a block of stone and removed everything that did not look like hair? Impressive. I could not even walk with something like that on my head. Really impressive.
