Beauty | Lipstick Shades Of The Season (2)

lipstickshades (1)

As some of you may recall, back in January I published a post titled Lipstick Shades of the Season (1), where I shared some of my favourite lipstick shades for the Autumn/Winter months, so since we have now crossed through Spring and straight into Summer, I thought that I’d share an updated Lipstick Shades of the Season!

It’s time to ditch those deeper, richer tones that have been dressing your lips for the past few months and introduce brighter and lighter shades to reflect the change in the weather! I’m certain that you will find a lipstick shade for you, whether your preference is for a sophisticated bright or a flattering sun-kissed nude, it’s all here…

1. Rimmel (272 Frosted)

So you might be thinking that the heat has melted my brain, choosing a lipstick called ‘Frosted’ for my Spring/Summer collection but this would be my favourite nude and I think that it suits this season perfectly, the champagne shade has a golden tone, which will match sun-kissed tanned skin beautifully.

Here, I have worn the lipstick on it’s own but with a few applications as it’s quite sheer, so if you don’t want to go bold then this is the one for you (the most subtle of the bunch)!

2. Max Factor (615 Star Dust Pink)

I’ll admit, I was completely sold on the name alone. If Tinker Bell was to wear a lipstick, it would undoubtedly be this one. The shade is a pale, dusty pink with a slight golden shimmer.

The Max Factor Elixirs have an AMAZING formula, which contains a blend of 60% emollients, conditioners and antioxidants (including vitamin E) that is meant to achieve a smoother surface on your lips in just one week. Honestly, I noticed the difference after one day. The lipstick is super soft, creamy and moisturising to help to protect your lips from sun exposure.

3. Barbara Daly (Sorbet)

Now to amp that shade of pink up a notch with the aptly named Summer favourite ‘Sorbet’, this is a bright shade with very light silver sparkles throughout, which help to add an extra shine. I also love the slight sweet scent that the lipstick has, it’s always a bonus! The lipstick itself is square, I thought that was quite unusual but it actually made it easier to apply, so that’s a thumbs up from me!

The shade is quite sheer but I have built it up here. If you can’t go bold in Summer, when can you?

4. Rimmel (210 Coral in Gold)

This is one of my favourite Summer lipstick shades, I absolutely love corals at this time of year but this particular shade is outstanding with the coral colour base being complimented by a beautiful golden shimmer.

If you are new to corals then this is a great starter, as it is much more subtle and less orange than it first appears in the packaging. Again, this would look perfect with a tan, lets keep our fingers crossed for some more sunshine!

5. Rimmel (140 Kiss Me)

This lipstick is really, really, really vibrant! Unfortunately the photos haven’t done the shade justice in this case, as it appears more red here, when in fact it’s a bright orange coral. It’s part of Rimmel’s “colour show-off” range and it certainly lives up to the name.

The lipstick is highly pigmented and long-lasting, which makes the texture a little heavier. This is the boldest of the lipsticks that I have chosen but it’s so fun, you just can’t pass it up!

6. Rimmel (880 Dazzling Raspberry)

As you know, my signature colour is red, so I can’t completely phase them out during the Spring/Summer months, that would be ludicrous!

As the name suggests, this is a raspberry red with a slight silver shimmer, I like to move away from mattes and choose lipsticks that will sparkle in the sunshine!

Which of these lipsticks is your favourite? Do you have one that you would add to this list?

Oh wow, I’m the opposite, I probably own too many, which makes curating these lists quite difficult! ‘Frosted’ sounds like a good place to start, as it’s very sheer and can go even lighter than it appears in the photo, just adds a touch of shine and light colour 🙂

Dazzling Raspberry would have to be my favorite, I love my red lipstick as well! Nude lipsticks make me look weird, just because my skin tone is so pale it… just looks strange hahaha. Thanks for this though, I would love to see a post for lipsticks for us vampire skin gals, because I always buy a lipstick and the model of course has a nice golden skin tone, the lipstick looks utterly amazing, I go home all excited, put it on.. and it is frightening. hahahaha, though I do love that Barbara Daly Sorbet shade too.. Its so pretty. Makes me want to go makeup shopping! (a weakness of mine)

Adele, I love them all. How do you choose? Also, do you match your lipstick to other things, like you outfit or accessories? Lately I have been wearing a very neutral pink. I love red but my bf doesn’t 😦

I own quite a few neutral pinks too, they’re lovely for Summer, one of my favs is Rimmel Apocalips (Celestial), I didn’t include it because it’s a lip lacquer, rather than a lipstick. It’s nice because it applies like a gloss but sets more matte, I usually wear glosses over lipsticks but I don’t need to with this one.

There’s so much choice when it comes to lipstick but I love trying new shades, so I’ll just go for it, even if it’s something that I’ve never tried before. I always match my lipsticks to my outfits but if there’s no distinct colour palette in the outfit (e.g. black and white), then I’ll decide based on the occasion (e.g. nude for daytime, red for nighttime etc.). I should do some posts showing my make up and outfit choices, that would be fun!

What do you look for/think about when searching for a lipstick?
