Fashion | Oscars 2015: Red Carpet Review

February 22nd marked the red carpet event of the year: The Oscars!

I followed the ceremony by every means possible – television, social media, news feeds, fashion websites – after a few days of fully absorbing and fairly reviewing the all-important outfit choices of the stars, I’m now going to share my favourites with you. Unlike previous blog entries I’m not going to focus on the “worst dressed” because there are far too many wonderful wardrobe highlights to admire.

Red Carpet Review: Top 10

I can appreciate red being one of my signature colours on the red carpet. Rosamund Pike (left) looked picture perfect in her romantic red, embellished Givenchy dress. The dress pulls in at the waist, showcasing her curves, combined with simple make-up and a sleek up do – she got it right from head-to-heel.

Dakota Johnson (right) opted for a more simplistic fire-engine red, one-shouldered diamond encrusted Saint Laurent dress. Similarly, she chose simple make-up with a ponytail, allowing the dress to be the main focus. This was a solid ‘safe’ choice.

Anna Kendrick’s (left) gorgeous coral, halter-neck Thakoon gown was one of the first to catch my attention at the event. The colour was refreshing for the season and the dress had a luxurious silk/chiffon finish with the jewelled collar adding that extra touch of glam!

You should realise by now that Emma Stone (right) is going to get a mention. Let’s face it- she should be on every red carpet, ever. She bravely chose a lime-green Elie Saab gown, which had long-sleeves and delicate gold details. Her hair, makeup, dress and attitude are always on point, managing to maintain a strong sense of personal identity.

Jennifer Lopez (left) looked like an absolute Queen in her blush champagne coloured Elie Saab gown, completed with luxurious beading, billowing layers of material and a long train trailing behind. Whether you liked it or you didn’t, there’s no doubt that you couldn’t take your eyes off it!

Another red carpet winner came from Jamie Chung (right) as she stepped out in her regal, sleeveless Yanina Couture gown with similar layers of material being accented with starbursts of sequins. She certainly lit up the event in true movie star glory!

I thought that Keira Knightly (left) looked ultra pretty in her hand-embroided (!), floral Valentino gown. The soft and flowy fabric perfectly showcased her baby bump, whilst the intricate details add a beautiful romantic element. Simply glowing!

Talking about pregnant women, it’s hard to believe that Zoe Saldana (right) gave birth to twin boys less than two months ago! She made a glamorous appearance at the Oscars in this draped, blush pink, figure-hugging Versace dress with ruche detailing along the bodice. In a word: WOW!

The gentlemen deserve a mention too, I admit that it must be more of a challenge to stand out on the red carpet when you’re choosing between suits and tuxedos but Eddie Redmayne (left) did a stellar job, epitomising the quintessentially British look with a contemporary twist. He switched the classic tux out for this navy Alexander McQueen version, very dapper!

I know that Jared Leto’s (right) choice of outfit has not been a popular one but I must admit to having a soft spot for it. He looks like the prom king of my fashion dreams in this powder blue Givenchy number (complete with floral brooch). Now all that he needs is a crown!

Did you watch the 87th Academy Awards ceremony? Which of these outfits is your favourite? Were there any others that caught your eye?

I actually accidentally ended up watching the whole of this Oscars in the end the other day! But I loved Emma Stone’s, Rosamund Pike’s and Anna Kendrick dresses so much as well.I’m with you in being a fan of Jared Leto’s get up as well. But I also have a soft spot for Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson and Zendaya’s looks as well. And a whole bunch of others, but they were defo my stand outs!

Haha, once you have it on, it just reels you in! 😉

I’m pleased that I’m not the only person to appreciate Jared Leto’s unique sense of style, I was disappointed seeing it feature in some of the “worst dressed” lists, at least it wasn’t safe! Lupita Nyong’o was absolutely flawless, I like your other picks too, just so many great ones this year!!

      Thanks for the comment x
